Baptism

Celebrate your life in Christ!

At Revive Wesleyan, we believe water baptism is a celebration of your decision to follow Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Just as the symbols of the wedding and wedding ring are a declaration of a marriage covenant, water baptism is the outward declaration of the covenant an individual has made to be a Christ-follower. As your church, we would love to help you take this step on your faith journey.

Frequently Asked Questions About Baptism:

Why should I be baptized?
Jesus commanded His followers to be baptized as an outward symbol of an inward commitment. This action puts the world on notice that a person is leaving their old life behind and embracing the life God has for them. See Matthew 3:13-17, Matthew 28: 18-20 & Romans 6:1-5

Does Salvation come through Baptism?
The act of going into the water is not our salvation. Jesus made a way to eternal life for us through His death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. If one of His commands is to be baptized, why would a believer not want to be obedient to follow Jesus in this way?

What if I was previously baptized?
Ephesians 4:5 states that there is “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” We recognize that many other Christian traditions celebrate baptisms. We honor and celebrate what God has done through His grace. If you have been previously baptized and are questioning the need to be re-baptized, we would like to invite you to have a conversation with us. Contact  via email for next steps.

What age is appropriate for baptism?
Baptism has nothing to do with age and everything to do with a person’s spiritual condition. However a person needs to fully understand that baptism is a public proclamation and celebration of the inward decision a person has made to be a Christ follower. We meet with kids and families individually to discern if a child can articulate his or her faith and desire for baptism independently.

For very young children not yet ready for baptism, we invite parents to present their children to Jesus in dedication that they will raise their child(ren) in the Christian faith modeling for them and teaching them what it looks like and means to follow Jesus.

Here are some questions to think about as you consider child baptism:
1. Why is Baptism important to you?

2. What did Jesus do for us/you?

3. What happens when you believe in Jesus?

4. When did you accept Jesus as your savior?

5. What does having God in your life mean to you?

6. Who has helped you grow in your faith?

7. How does being a Christ follower make you a part of His story?
